Even though this was a major summer holiday weekend, the park was not crawling
with people. (Personally, I far prefer "the road less traveled by.")
There were even a few vacant campsites, although I think that probably had
more to do with the threat of thunderstorms.
Contributing factors to the scarcity of visitors may be the lack of
flush toilets and shower facilities. But we managed to get along
without them! Thankfully, the PA Parks Dept. has recently upgraded the
old open pit toilet facilities to an improved and much less smelly variety.

Here's a view of the beach from the opposite side of the lake. The
dam is on the right, thoughtfully provided with a sidewalk and benches for
sitting. The previous picture was taken from one of the benches along
the dam.

This picture shows the lake, dam, and spillway. Someday, I want
to ride down that spillway on an air mattress!!
Two other small parks I remember from my childhood are Poe Valley and
Poe Paddy. Both parks are in the State College area. My Dad
presided over them as a District Forester, before moving to Harrisburg in
1955.
