Doubling Gap Lake is a tiny gem tucked in between mountains in the
Tuscarora range. It's within easy walking distance of the campground,
and is very well cared for. Every morning, the beach was
raked smooth.
The girls had a great time swimming and building sand
castles. The water is quite cold, but since the weather was VERY hot
and humid, it felt great!

The lake has been thoughtfully provided with a row of chairs,
permanently anchored along the tree line. After the first trip to the
beach, we
didn't bother bringing ours. I haven't seen anything like this in
other state parks.
While sitting there, I thought to myself, "These
are nice. It's as though the park service knew that most folks in
Perry County probably don't own lawn chairs!" (For those not
familiar with the area, Perry County is considered by some to be the "Dogpatch"
of the greater Harrisburg area!)

On several outings, Katy brought along her friend Tara. Tara and her family used to live next door, and we all became good friends.
Tara came with us on Sunday, and the rest of her family joined us on Monday for an
overnight. Fortunately the weather behaved! We stayed
till Wednesday, and packed up in a downpour -- which is typical!

The bamboo walking sticks we brought were very popular with the girls,
and they took them almost everywhere. They also pretended that they
were batons, and each put on twirling shows that were quite
impressive!

We went to the beach early every day in camp.
Here, the weather was still a little misty from the previous day's light rain, but
bright and warm. The beach was as well-cared-for as ever, but the lake
was stunningly COLD since central PA has recently had a lot of rain.
The kids didn't seem to mind it too much, but the big folks decided
not to get in very far!

Katy and Tara delighted in burying each other, and creating a City in
the Sand which they dubbed "Tatytopia," -- a clever blending of both their
first names.
